Give Before You Get
The Underserved Help Themselves Through Helping Others
There are nearly 8,000 homeless persons living in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. There are military veterans suffering from mental illness. Women and children escaping from abusive partners. Immigrants with limited English abilities looking to make a better life for themselves. They are your family. Your friends. Your community.
That’s why we founded Give Before You Get (GBYG).
The program partners with organizations in and around the D.C. area to provide the city’s homeless and at-risk populations with the opportunity to lend a helping hand. They are truly giving to others before they get the job, the home or the peace of mind they are working toward. It’s been so successful that we’ve replicated the program in Cleveland, Memphis, and New Orleans. We truly believe that given the opportunity, we can all do good.
Our efforts will culminate on December 12th, 2015. We’re partnering with Howard University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center for the 2015 GBYG Volunteer Day, where we’ll bring together Stafford Foundation staff and GBYG Volunteers for a morning filled with gift giving and self-esteem building.
However, we can’t do it without your help.
For every $10 you contribute, you are giving someone a boost towards self-reliance. With your 100 percent tax-deductible gift, our volunteers will get to experience the dignity and inspiration felt in participating in altruistic acts. Each $10 you give goes toward one small gift that will be given by the volunteers to those visited in the hospitals on GBYG Volunteer Day.
Help others help themselves. Contribute to GBYG today. Text GBYG to 91999 to donate now!

I volunteered at a soup kitchen before work today. I’ve never seen such a grateful and thankful group of people.
