The Stafford Foundation helps the underserved to become self-sufficient. We do this through partnering with individuals, organizations and communities to help develop their capacity for helping themselves and those around them. We sincerely believe that regardless of the issues we might be experiencing in life, we have a responsibility and an obligation to do just a little good for others who are suffering. Our values include faith in Jesus Christ, integrity, inclusiveness, respect, and unconditional sacrificial giving.
Initiated in 2002, the Foundation is celebrating a decade of helping others! We are well-known for the People’s Inaugural Project described below, and support programs in the areas of faith-based mission support; education and training and health care. We founded and continue to manage the following programs:
- Give Before You Get (GBYG) was founded in 2010 in partnership with organizations that help the underserved. GBYG provides the homeless and at-risk population with opportunities to brighten someone else’s day or lend a hand to others. Anchored in Washington, D.C., Virginia and Maryland, the program has been replicated in Cleveland, Memphis and New Orleans. Learn more about GBYG including the 2012 photo contest featuring $10,000 in prizes for participating organizations. Donate now to support Give Before You Get.
- The Stafford Centre in Burkina Faso, Africa developed in collaboration with International Cooperating Ministries (ICM) and the Evangelical Association for Development Support (AEAD). Now home to 24 orphaned boys and girls, the Stafford Centre will eventually raise 100 children. In addition, the Centre provides a Christian church open to all for worship; a school for teaching basic literacy and math to adults; a school for orphans and other vulnerable children attended by boys and girls of all ages; and a Conference Centre that has hosted children’s Bible camps, Christian leadership groups and even a volleyball tournament! - Doing Good, a program to inspire and empower all people to lend a hand and make a difference in the world. We invite you to share a story of Doing Good or to purchase and proudly wear a Doing Good t-shirt!
The Stafford Foundation is well known for the People’s Inaugural Project (PIP) that brought disadvantaged people from all walks of life to Washington, D.C. to be part of the 2009 presidential inaugural celebration for President Barack Obama. More than 400 guests were welcomed for a three-day gathering that included four events — the People’s Inaugural Ball, a Youth Ball, a prayer breakfast and a luncheon. Nearly 40 nonprofit organizations that assist some of society’s neediest people participated in the Project. The Foundation continues to partner with these organizations providing scholarships and grants to promote education and training leading to self-sufficiency. We are asking you to join us in doing just a little good. It really only takes a little on your part to have a big impact on someone else’s life. And besides…..doing good feels good.
~ Schroeder Stribling, Executive Director, N Street Village
“The People’s Inaugural Ball moved and inspired our whole community. By extending this opportunity to homeless women from our programs, the Stafford Foundation reminded us of the worth and integrity of every person, and the value of every voice.”
